Trademark Clinic
In July 2014, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced The John Marshall Law School (JMLS) as one of the law schools selected for the Clinic Certification Pilot Program starting in the 2014 fall semester. The JMLS Trademark Clinic provides trademark legal services to individuals, small businesses and non-profits on a pro bono basis. Under the direct supervision of practicing trademark attorneys, the students of the clinic conduct searches, give advice to clients regarding intellectual property needs, draft and file applications with the USPTO, and respond to office actions. Admitted to practice before the USPTO under a temporary license, students develop practical skills such as drafting, counseling, interviewing, researching, problem-solving and case management. They are also involved in the skills of developing a law practice and a law office.
Any small business, non-profit, or individual interested in protecting the mark of a product or service and would like assistance from the JMLS Trademark Clinic should send an email request to [email protected].
Students interested in participating in the Trademark Clinic should contact the Director.
